My Students

My students walk into our classroom every day excited for the new challenges that await them that day. Each day, they are reminded that they were selected to be in my class because I asked for the best students in the school, and that's exactly what I got. I let them know that they can do anything if they believe in themselves as much as I believe in them.

I teach at a Title I school where more than half of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Many of their families struggle just to make ends meet. You would never know it from the passion and enthusiasm they show each morning when they come to our classroom. They want to be here because they know that if they give their best, they can achieve anything in life.

My Project

There is nothing worse for a child than to start the school year without the proper supplies. Well, maybe there is one thing worse; not being able to start the school year with the right supplies because they can't afford to pay for those supplies.

School supplies should not be something a child has to worry about when starting a new school year.

Unfortunately, I live in an area where this situation is a stark reality. So many of my students are unable to start the year with the proper supplies and our district is so strapped for cash that we are cutting money from budgets; not adding in money to supply children.

I need my students to be able to use pencils so they can do their math lessons. I want them to have dry erase markers so we can use our white boards instead of having to continually buy paper. I want them to have folders so they can keep their work organized.

These don't seem like big asks, but the reality of the situation is that these things are in huge need at my school.
