Let's Start the Year Engaged and Motivated with New Supplies!
Help me give my students get notebooks, erasers, colorful pencils and other much needed supplies to start off the year engaged and excited to (finally!) get back in the classroom!
My students are a fun group of creative and active 5th graders. We live in an rural, isolated village in northwest Alaska, where many students practice subsistence hunting and fishing to support their families. Most of my students are Native Alaskan and are taught traditional native values. My students love playing sports, hunting carribou, riding snow machines and four wheelers, going ice fishing and sledding.
My students are a diverse group, with strong ties to their families, their culture and the land.
In the classroom, they are an energetic group that enjoys working in groups, doing hands-on activities, and playing goofy games.
My Project
My upcoming fifth graders will have spent months doing distant learning and staying mostly quarantined at home. When they finally get to come back into the classroom, I want it to be a colorful and engaging place. I have some supplies left over from last year that look old and used, and I'm afraid won't be very inspiring to my new students.
I have chosen items that I hope will engage and motivate my new students, as well as help them to regain some of the knowledge they have lost over their extended time away from school.
The pencils, erasers, and stickers will help to reward my students as they relearn classroom routines. The posters and bulletin board decals will help to reinforce math and language arts concepts. The rulers, notebooks, scissors and clipboards are much needed replacements for last year's supplies.
