Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in Elmhurst, Queens where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. The students this project will fund are from various ethnic backgrounds. Since these students do not have the means to join team sports we decided to give them the opportunity to play a team sport at their school. We started a coed basketball program that allows 4th and 5th grade students the opportunity to try out and play on the team. They play against other schools in the district during the school day. The students practice hard after school and during lunch time. This year their hard work payed off as they won the district championship.
My Project
As the 2018/2019 basketball season approaches the basketball team at my school is in need of uniforms. As of right now the team has jerseys but they do not have basketball shorts. The team works really hard every year, practicing after school, and even during their lunch time. Last season their hard work and dedication led to a District Championship Title! We would love to reward our students for their hard work with brand new basketball shorts . Having a complete uniform that will bring a sense of pride to the players . These new shorts would not only help them represent their school, but also allow them to be more comfortable while playing for a repeat championship!
