I am a Special Education teacher in High Point, North Carolina. I work with students in grades 1st through 5th with learning disabilities. The majority of these students come from low income families. My students and I recently began a paper recycling program in the school. This program was begun due to the increased amount of paper waste that seemed to be generating at our school. The students did some research into the amount of trees that were required to produce the paper we were using. As a result of our recycling program we have begun using small dry erase boards to do much of our classwork rather than paper. This has greatly reduced the amount of paper waste in the classroom. With the use of the dry erase boards we are going through lots of dry erase markers. The students are very responsible with the markers and are careful to keep the cap on them when they are not writing. They also understand that the markers are not for doodling on the boards. My request is for 14 dozen dry erase markers. This amount would ensure that each student had a working marker for the entire school year.
