This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Our school is made up of individuals from all around the globe. Many of my students are minorities and come from low-income families. For many students, our school library is the only one that they have ever set foot in, making it a truly special place. It is where students can gain literacy skills while we are constantly growing their love of reading while also nurturing their different learning styles and language needs.

All children should have equal access to a quality education regardless of their zip code.

As the school librarian, I want my students to know they are important and valued. Offering them a variety of books is just the start to enabling them to be successful as lifelong readers.

My Project

In the library we want to cut down on paper usage and ramp up our reading and researching skills. We can do this by adopting the use of Dry Erase Pockets and markers instead of traditional paper and pencils. Students can write, draw, and record information using the dry erase pockets and markers. Instead of making a copy of paper for each student that comes to the library for class, I can make one copy that can be used multiple times. This is a win for me, the students, and the environment!

Some activities we will use the Dry Erase Pockets for are guiding drawing, vocabulary building, writing practice, independent research, and much more!
