Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are third, fourth, and fifth graders. They've been identified through testing as gifted and talented. I also have in my case load, highly gifted and twice exceptional students (which means, for example gifted and autistic). My students work hard and they are eager and excited to learn.

In addition, I service high ability second grade students.

I service students at three schools. All three are Title I, Tier I, all located in high poverty, tough neighborhoods. Nevertheless, they deserve to be nurtured, to have the opportunity to succeed in school and in life.

My Project

I am requesting two virtual reality headsets for field trip experiences that will break down barriers and bring new experiences to the classroom. Imagine putting together a Tyrannosaurus rex from fossil bones, and then go back millions of years to when the dinosaur actually lived, or virtually walk through the home that hid Anne Frank, including the space where she and her family lived, or be in Neil Armstrong's seat during the moon landing of Apollo 11 in 1969, and even take a walk along the Moon's surface!

Could virtual reality offer a way to remove barriers, and allow children in classes at the other side of the country or even the world to virtually walk through the doors?

In order to expand student knowledge, we'd like to offer them opportunities to explore virtual reality (VR) experiences, transport students beyond the limits of a field trip, and turn education into play!

With much learning now happening in the world, these experiences will expand the way children are learning.

And, if for any medical reason a student cannot attend regular class, there could be an option to be virtually present in a classroom.

Virtual Reality in the classroom is already here! The future of Field Trips is here!
