My Students
Today's classrooms have certainly changed in the past year, we went from in person school to remote to hybrid learning. I want my students to come back in the fall to the normal, where we are hands on, learning in groups, with the laughing and learning.
My students love to learn hands on, they are well behaved and love to play games that promote learning.
They are also really starting to enjoy reading.
They attend a school that has a very diverse population, many of these students are free and reduced lunch children. Most of my students come from single parent homes, in which the parents work 2nd and 3rd shifts.
My Project
I am a first-grade teacher and teach a variety of subjects from reading/math to science and social studies. The school that I teach in is a Title I school whose students, many of whom do not speak English at home, come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. These elementary students also tend to come from single-parent homes, to have grandparents raising them, or to be in financial need.
I would love to bring reading into my students' homes.
Reading is a very important part of everyday life, and my students need to practice every chance that they can get. That is why I would like to get daily reading logs and take-home backpacks for my students. Most of my students do not have the funds for storybooks or notebooks. Having these two things would let my students practice reading, practice writing, and help get their families involved also.
I would like to have take-home backpacks so that my students have something special in which to carry their reading journals and their take-home readers. Having the book backpacks would make the students feel special and take pride in being responsible. The reading journals will let the students express what they liked about the book that they read, what they didn't like about the book, or what they would change if they were writing this book for someone.
Your help will ensure that my students are able to practice at home the reading and writing skills that they have learned in the classroom. This will also help involve my students' parents in their child's learning.
