My Students
As a third-grade teacher at a Title I school in Utah, I have the privilege of working with a fantastic group of students. Not only are my students smart and driven, but they are courageous and kind. I find that they teach me something new every day.
Most of my third-grade students come from low-income homes.
These students go home and do not own books or literacy materials. Therefore, it is my utmost goal in my teaching career to providing my students with the best and most comprehensive reading instruction possible, while still instilling a love of reading and writing. My students love books and love writing! However, half of my class is reading and writing well below a third-grade level, and for some, we have a two-grade level gap to close.
My Project
These materials will be used directly by my students. I try to promote reading as much as possible. Studies show that most middle schoolers are reading at or below a 4th-grade reading level. It is essential to get books in the hands of students. I have chosen books for this library collection that will motivate my students and books they have asked for again and again. Therefore, these books will be well-loved and used daily by my students. Each book has been recommended and asked for by my third graders.
