This year I have decided to leave the high school world and enter into the exciting world of middle school. This change has sparked many new dreams and aspirations that I hope to provide my future students. While I have not met my students yet, I know they are amazing, bright, brilliant, energetic, passionate early teens. I look forward to providing them with an amazing 8th grade experience before they transition into high school.
My Project
Students will get to select their own independent reading books from the classroom library. Through these books they will be able to explore and experience different settings, people, points of view, and themes that interest them. By having a selection of books that are specifically written for their age group they will be able to relate, develop, and grow as individuals through literature.
Reading increases our understanding of our own identity, improves empathy and gives us an insight into the world view of others.
In addition to the health benefits, reading for pleasure has social benefits and can improve our sense of connectedness to the wider community.
The goal is for students to fall in love with the idea of reading for pleasure, instead of only reading for academic advancement.
Not only do I want give students access to a wide range of books, I am also hoping to create an environment that motivates them to read. A comfy place for them to kick back, relax, and enjoy a good book.
