This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did you grow up in a house with books? What would life have been like if you had not had any books? For many of my students, the only books they ever see are the ones they see in school. I am doing everything I can to expose my students to good books and I need your help!

All of my students are from low income families and many parents do not speak English.

My students are in second grade and all are excited to learn to read! Their parents want to help them, but many don't know how. Also, these students don't get to experience as much of the world as middle income families. They can't afford to travel, some don't even have a car. So the way they learn about the world and its possibilities is through books and what I can bring to them.

My Project

We need more books for the students to read! They read for at least an hour every day and having a variety of good books keeps them interested. We also need a good place to help keep them organized. With this cart, I can label the buckets by topic, author, or by their reading group. I want my students to be able to find the books they need easily to keep the excitement alive. Nothing is worse than getting frustrated with reading because you can't find an interesting book. I have requested to get 30 books to start this cart off right. I have selected a mixture of popular fiction and nonfiction books guaranteed to get kids reading!

Many of my second grade students come to me below grade level, some still reading at a beginning kindergarten level.

I need your help to get these kids reading more! I can only teach them the skills they need to read, I need the books to encourage them to practice, practice, practice!
