My students come from different types of families and homes. Some have never ventured out of our small county, but they have an urge to explore. Exploration comes from learning and learning happens in comfortable environments like the ones provided in our small rural school. Several of my students have a passion for learning, but some have yet to find their enjoyment of school. They are young students, 8, 9, and 10 years old, who are full of energy and a desire to have freedom. I team teach so I will have around 40 students this year.
They are creative and investigative and are always searching for ways to make reading and writing fun.
Some of my students are struggling readers and writers, while others have a strong desire to read and creatively write. Reading is typically not their favorite or strongest subject, but once they figure out reading can be fun and interesting they dive right in!
My Project
The table and stools will provide fresh and new opportunities for students to meet with their guided reading groups, as well as small pullout groups. Right now we meet in different places around the classroom, but this table would provide a structured place for us to meet.
I know how structure can positively affect a student's work and demeanor and I hope that the additional options will help my students grow and work to their potential!
We are getting down to the final two quarters of the year, so small group time is becoming very important. Having an exciting new place to meet will encourage students to reach their goals and become reading and writing experts.
