This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a Title 1 and 100% free lunch school. My students are diverse learners that all need something different from school. Students in my class are given access to flexible seating, a classroom library, and a Makerspace every day in order to better their learning.
Our classroom is full of diverse, excited learners who need a wide range of resources to learn.
My goal is to create a caring classroom community where my students feel valued and a sense of belonging. My students teach me just as much as I teach them.
My Project
The Breadwinner is a wonderful book that describes a girl's struggle in a war-torn Taliban-era Afghanistan. She has to pretend to be a boy because her father died and she is the only one who can work to become the breadwinner for her family.
As a fifth grader, I read The Breadwinner and it was the book that kickstarted my love of reading.
It has stuck with me through life and to this day it is one of my favorite books. I hope to pass this love of reading along to my students.
The Breadwinner is a deeply impactful book, as well as very relevant in today's global climate. Students will see a glimpse of what it is like in someone else's shoes, specifically someone living in dangerous and poor conditions everyday.
