Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Make a real difference in children's lives! Did you have books to read when you were young? Many of my students do not have any books at home. By providing interesting fun reading materials for my students, hopefully they will learn to love reading as it opens up a new world to them!
My amazing kindergarten students have many obstacles to overcome.
My students live in a suburb of Washington in a predominantly Hispanic community. They are English language learners who qualify to receive free meals at school. Some of my students are also special needs students with developmental delays.
My Project
These magazine subscriptions will make a great impact on the lives of my students. I have used the Let's Find Out and Science Spin magazines in my classroom for several years. My students do not have reading materials at home. They love to take home the weekly magazines so that they can read them with their parents.
In addition to the paper copies of the magazines, we are able to read the magazines on our interactive Promethean smart board.
There are games and videos provided with the subscription which help to make learning fun. The topics covered in the magazines are aligned with our curriculum standards for literacy, math, and science.
The books about kindness will help the students learn how to treat each other. They will support our social studies curriculum.
