My class is part of a charter school located in a rural community. About 1/3 of my students are reading below their peers. Part of this is due to the COVID pandemic and loss of learning time. Many of my students also live well below the average income for our area. Despite challenges, my amazing students work hard. It is a magical thing to see the light bulb click as they begin to put the pieces together and start to read.
My Project
My classroom has 25 inquisitive students that love learning to read, being read to and building STEM projects.
With the Boogie Boards, students will be able to easily practice their phonemic awareness skills, while the building projects will help with creating and social skills as they work together, and Mentor Books will help them with literacy.
The best part of teaching is to see lights go off in their eyes as they start to learn and make connections with the world around them. These activities will help put light in many eyes.
