This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My passion for teaching sparked while working as an aide in a Special Education classroom. Ever since, my goal was to become a special education teacher. Now I teach in a bilingual title 1 school in an RSP (Resource Specialist Program) classroom. I teach students who have learning differences, who are English learners, children who are homeless, children who live below poverty, and much more. Despite all the struggles they have faced, my students are hardworking, diligent, curious, kind, enthusiastic, honest, and creative.

With all of this in mind, as I prepare my students for the demands of the increasingly complex life and work environments of the 21st Century, it is my responsibility to create an environment where my students are engaged and successful in their learning.

By providing my students with a safe environment, they will thrive in their learning; making it easier for them to accept their differences as they continue to practice a growth mindset.

I am blessed to be teaching these wonderful and loving children who give me the opportunity to make a difference in their education and their lives.

My Project

Knowing a second language opens up social and cultural opportunities as well as different perspectives of how we see the world around us. For this reason, I would love to provide my RSP students with fiction and nonfiction books that are engaging and transport them to different experiences.

The Guided Reading Collection books will provide my students with infinite opportunities to travel to different worlds and to become bilingual and biliteral regardless of the language they speak at home.

Moreover, providing books that students can read independently and with support will motivate the students to become fluent and skilled readers.

I am so thrilled to add books in Spanish to our existing English library for my RSP students. This addition to our library will help them strengthen their academic skills and become more successful readers.`
