This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a Title I school that serves a low socioeconomic community with over 90% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches. My students love to learn, and it makes me want to be a better teacher for them daily.
My students come to school not only to learn academics but to learn to be a part of a community.
My students love to come to school to learn new things, as well as how to be friends and helpers in their community.
My students make my job so fulfilling and I love to give back to them whenever I can.
My Project
Using the science of reading, I want to be able to give my students books that reflect their learning in the classroom. That is why we need books that are decodable and that my students can read for understanding.
Using texts that can be decoded is a primary part of learning to read.
When a student feels confident in his ability to read, he will also begin to understand. This builds fluency, which leads to a great reader.
In addition to these book sets, I am in need of a workbook that students can use to practice word awareness and spelling in relation to the book they are reading.
