Let's Read and Write! Vamos a Leer y Escribir!

My students need middle school level books in English and Spanish, pencils, highlighters and post it notes to improve note taking and comprehension.

My Students

Remember when you felt empowered through reading? Let's get more books in our students' hands! My students are hungry to learn and love reading. Our classrooms are in need of more Spanish books to support our ELL and bilingual students as well as some basic school supplies.

Our school is full of unique and creative students and I would love to tell you all about their individual personalities and why they make me excited to come to school every morning.

While this project is to support reading, let's talk numbers first: 95% of students are low-income, 33% of students speak limited English, and 22% of students are Diverse Learners

My Project

I am a co-teacher and push into general education classrooms to support our school's Diverse Learners. Many students in class benefit from having a sharpened pencil to take notes, a post it note to flag a page with great text evidence or annotate a text book, and highlighters to mark their new vocabulary words in their notebooks. Every classroom has their own library in addition to our school's main library. Our resources are scarce with middle school leveled books in Spanish. I'm hoping to grow our bilingual library to better support our ELL and ESL students who are always looking for more books to read.

This project will help engage our students with different texts as they take ownership of their learning with readily available school supplies.

ELL and ESL students will enjoy reading high quality grade level books in Spanish and discussing them in small groups or with the teacher.
