Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Recently, I took in inventory of my classroom library and was disheartened to find tattered and out-dated informational books. My students read independently everyday, and literally no one was choosing informational books. It is very important for students to read books at their reading level. It helps increase their vocabulary and boost their comprehension level. Typically, nonfiction books are more challenging than fiction books. Therefore, it is crucial that they are motivated to choose informational books during reading time.

I am trying to create a beautiful library filled with inviting books for all my students.

Some of our life science concepts are systems in nature and animal adaptations. It is very important for my English Language Learners to see these concepts and vocabulary in a variety of contexts. Reading about what they learned in science, will not only help their reading comprehension, understanding of the world around them, but there vocabualry develpment as well.
