Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from diverse backgrounds in a low-income community. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child each day, which is now being served weekly to students and families by pickup only during this time of school shut down. My science students bring a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences, and enthusiasm to our dual-language school. They need practice with reading, writing, and literacy now more than ever.

I'd like to lift my student's spirits and give them something fun to look forward to this next school year by purchasing one individual copy of this science "graphic novel" book for all 7th-grade science students.

My students are creative, clever, and enthusiastic about learning, but need engaging and grade-level appropriate materials. The majority of my students are not reading or using hands-on materials during distance learning. They would benefit from a variety of hands-on resources to help increase their success this next school year. This project focuses on literacy and getting students engaged in scientific literature with the purchase of individual student books.

My Project

My students are faced with distance learning, overwhelming screen time, and individual learning in their homes. I want to provide students an engaging read-along book this next school year to enjoy together and remove the screens and lectures. This project will put a personal copy of "The Acadia Files" in each student's hands and will provide a fun introduction to the wonders of science at the beginning of the school year.

This is a great beginning of the year read-aloud, discussion, and literacy support tool that will engage students and set a foundation for a successful school year.

The book uses real-world scenarios to make scientific inquiry relatable and understandable. This book will allow students to read, discuss, and discover for themselves what it’s like to be curious about the world and to satisfy that curiosity with scientific thinking and notetaking.
