This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a P.E. teacher, I am fortunate to interact with every elementary student that attends my school. They enjoy P.E. because, in my class, we strive to get every student involved and try to make something great happen every day. I teach my students physical skills and help them build character. My students accept challenges and always rise to the expectation that is set for them. This attitude is especially impressive when you consider that my students are part of an incredibly diverse school community.

I teach at a Title I School in Nevada in which a high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and receive free lunch.

My students often face tough obstacles in their lives, but arrive at school smiling and ready to learn. They love their teachers and they adore their principal. Our school truly is a community – a family. We each do our part, as students and teachers work side by side with one mission in mind: our students’ success. We help the students set their goals high and we strive to help them achieve those goals.

My Project

I teach my P.E. classes outside. Along with the natural sounds of the outdoors, my students' ears are also exposed to recess periods, a nearby airport, cars driving by the school, and fifty other students shouting for joy because they are in P.E.! Hearing my directions can be difficult in this environment. My students are also interested in activities that require music, such as dancing and high-intensity aerobics. With this project, my students would be able to hear class directions more easily and have the opportunity to experience a completely different P.E. class that includes music and movement.

My students would have an enriched, improved, and more satisfying class experience with sound system to provide music and high quality sound to their class environment.

Management would improve and unwanted behaviors would decrease. Students would be able to hear directions more clearly and that would improve transitions and help them use their time more efficiently. Music would increase the likelihood of participation and students would enjoy their time in the class with the incorporation of music. New units could be introduced such as dance, guided yoga, choreography, and aerobics. Music is also a great transitional tool for teachers to use and that benefits students tremendously. This project is going to completely transform the PE experience for every elementary student in my school.
