This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 32 energetic fourth graders in my New York City classroom. Many of the children come from low-economic households, but they have big dreams. They understand the importance of a good education. Most of the students attend after-school programs as well, so they spend the majority of their day in school.
My students work both in homogeneous groups and in heterogeneous groups in order to accomplish their daily learning targets.
We not only focus our academic goals, but on our social-emotional goals as well. We are involved with the Leader in Me program and practice our 7 Habits of Happy Kids. We understand that in order to be successful in school, we must always try our best. We motivate each other and work as a team.
My Project
My students love to publish their writing on the computer. I encourage them to type their written pieces because it gives them word processing skills which is a necessity these days. Right now our school does not have a technology teacher so we must practice our basic computer skills in the classroom as part of our writer's block.
In order to print our writing pieces, we need ink for the printer.
As you can imagine, with 32 students in our class we go through a lot of ink. Unfortunately, our school does not provide us with ink. With our generous donations, we will be able to print our published work and proudly display them on our bulletin boards.
We are also working on creating class books. After each writing unit, we compile our work to create a book with our published pieces and illustrations. The book then becomes part of our classroom library for all to share. The books look more "professional" if they are typed and printed. As you can see, we really could use ink for our printer. Please help us print!
