This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Digital photography is an amazing artform, but taking the photo and editing it on the computer is only a fraction of the artistic process. You need to see a print in your hands to get the complete sense of your own work.

I am requesting a high-quality photo printer so we will be able to print our photos and share them with our school and community during our school and district art fair.

In addition we will be able to print photos that students take for their own enjoyment and pride at home.

Holding a print of your own photo makes the digital photography experience real. If you remember taking photography classes in high school or college and you worked in a darkroom, you know the feeling of holding a print you made yourself. You had a sense of accomplishment and tangible proof of a process that could be equal parts exciting and frustrating. Students who use digital workflows are missing that tangible experience you had in that darkroom; a print.

The printer I selected is a professional-grade Canon printer. It makes amazing prints. We will be able to pay for ink through fundraisers and other methods.

With digital photo being so ephemeral, it would be meaningful for my students to have a physical record of their creative efforts; to be able to point at a picture on the wall and say, "I made that!" Please help me make this happen for them.
