My Project

I teach in a small, rural school where the majority of my students are low-income. Our student body is 51.4% minority and 75.2% free and reduced-price lunch. Many of our students are newcomers and do not have basic school supplies. Therefore, everything we use in class is purchased primarily by me.

To help teach coordinated play and social skills, outdoor playtime teaches important skills students need, instead of sitting alone indoors on a device.

In my classroom, outdoor playtime is important to help kids distance themselves from devices and participate in unstructured playtime. These activities build needed social skills and develop empathy for others that will translate into proper adult skills needed when entering the workforce.
