I teach at a Title I school surrounded by a tight knit community that is well vested in the education of the children at our school. With the nearby University, we have a wide range of students who come from different economic backgrounds and cultures. We have students that come from families where the main caregiver are grandparents or aunts and uncles.
I teach a Kindergarten to 2nd grade Special Education Resource class with our high-needs students.
These students come to school everyday excited to learn. They are not able to learn or function independently in the general education setting. They come to my classroom where I provide specific task modifications and foundational skills necessary that a typical Kindergarten student would already have. They are in my class all day and are taught all subjects. Despite their special needs to learn, they come to school with a positive attitude and a love for learning.
My Project
Dramatic Play allows children to learn many tings as they engage in play. It allows them the opportunity to work on understanding what goes on in the minds of other people. It allows them to engage in higher order thinking and to process things that they were exposed to but don't really understand. Dramatic play lays the foundation for literacy. It also allows for students to practice negotiation, agreement, and compromise.
Many people will dismiss children's dramatic play and say that it's silly or a waste of time but children are able to exercise their imagination and creativity.
