This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Not to brag, but I teach the most compassionate, inquisitive and creative group of three-year-olds in all of Baltimore City. This is a tall order, given that this is the first time these students have ever been in school! My goal for their first year of school is to give them a nurturing, safe school environment where they feel comfortable taking risks while they learn.
My Together at 3 class is comprised of eight typically developing students and two students with severe disabilities.
Despite their many differences, my students come together every day and work as a whole learning community.
My Project
Play is a fundamental skill for early learners. When fully engaged in play, students develop social skills, problem solve, and construct knowledge by building their own worlds. In order to play, students need an environment and materials that help them build these worlds. They need costumes, real world tools, books, and supportive caregivers. My students have the caregivers, they have books, they have the costumes and now they need the props to fully immerse them in dramatic play.
By donating to my project, you will be giving my students the opportunity to create their own worlds.
With the dollhouse and furniture set, they can create a family. With the veterinary set, they can learn to care for animals. With tools, they can help fix our classroom. With these tools, they can learn.
