My students come from all sorts of backgrounds. I love watching them interact and bond with each other in my math class. When they finish math, I sometimes ask them to choose a game with someone they usually don't interact with.
I have found that playing games together is such a fun and easy way to get to know someone in school.
I have never been a fan of silly icebreakers, as I think doing an activity together with someone accomplishes so much more than that.
Some of my students do not speak English as their first language and are new to the United States. I have included several games that they can play both without language and with some primary language to help them practice. It is essential that they also have an opportunity to have fun with their peers, which goes a long way with their comfort at school when they have people they have had some pleasure with.
