This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are hardworking, motivated individuals who live in a community that is underdeveloped. They are mostly of African American descent and are stereotyped by many. They come to school with a smile, no matter what issues are going on in their personal lives. They are all ready to learn and break the label that is put on them and become successful leaders in the future. These students love to run around and be active in the gymnasium, in their classrooms, and in their community.
My Project
The equipment in my cart will help spark an interest in playing softball for kids ages six through fourteen who come from low income families and live in areas where playing sports is uncommon because of the unsafe living conditions.
We would be introducing the softball equipment in physical education classes and using it for a future team or summer recreational league.
The overall benefit of purchasing this stuff for our students would be giving them the opportunity to achieve potential scholarships through sports. We would be bringing the community of the surrounding Detroit neighborhood together and providing a source for students to stay active for a lifetime.
