Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
New York is one of the few states which mandates that students pass a series of exams, called the Regents exams, in order to graduate high school and prepare for college.
I teach at a high-needs school that will be facing severe budget cuts for the next school year--budget cuts so severe that we could no longer be able to afford textbooks for our students.
Next year, I will be teaching students in their third or fourth years of high school who have yet to pass their mandated mathematics state exam--an exam that many of them have taken three times or more and failed. Many of my students are kind and motivated, yet simply struggle with mathematics and test-taking.
My Project
These review books I am requesting will help my students review these important mathematics concepts, and simultaneously review for their state exams. I myself have used these books in preparing for my state examinations while I was in high school. They are perfect in concentrating the state standards into key ideas and their questions are aligned with the state exams as well. These books should serve as a useful tool in helping my students study for the Regents.
Please provide these students with a chance to graduate!
Not everyone is a test-taker, yet these students must pass this test in order to provide them with a meaningful future and an opportunity to go to college. Please give them this opportunity at a time when schools such as mine cannot even afford books for individual students.
