Let's Organize Interactive Notebooks

Help me give my students wireless HP laser printers, HP toners for printers, colored paper, storage organizer cubes, and post-it notes/tabs to organize and print materials for their interactive math notebooks.

My Students

The students at my school are some of the most exceptional in our district. Being a magnet school, they come from three different attendance zones where almost all of them go on to attend a two or four year post-secondary institution. For many of them they are the first generation to attend college. The students are very inquisitive about learning and have a great interest in applying what they learn.

Every student has strengths, talents, and determination; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or encouragement to get them to see that they can do anything that they put their mind to.

I often encourage them to learn from their mistakes and let them know that I do believe in them. They may start out weak in some math areas, but by the time that they leave my classroom they are more confident in their math capabilities.

My Project

By the end of my math courses, I want my students to have a fully functional and organized interactive notebook. The students take standardized test throughout the year as well as state administered End-of-Course tests at the end of the year, and if they have a notebook that is colorful and organized then they will be able to review and locate information quickly.

Using color attracts the students attention and helps them to stay focused and engaged in the math lessons that are taught and helps to foster a deeper understanding of the mathematical concepts.

There are 317 students at my school, and I either teach or interact with more than half of these students during the school year. We are a small school where more than half of the students are either on free or reduced lunch. My school is a magnet school where the students have to fill out an application and submit test scores to be considered for admission. The students are bright and highly motivated. There are many challenges but knowing that I am building the students up to be great leaders makes teaching all worth the while. I have many students that return to say thank you for how I helped them. I can never get enough of these moments. It is a joy for me to teach my students.
