This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Organization is essential to keep a classroom full of seven year old students running smoothly. Our second grade classroom is in need of book stands to keep our classroom library organized and books visible for easy access.
My students are a wonderful group of second graders, who come from low social economic families.
Our school is composed of 99% Hispanic students, who come to school with a great desire to learn. Most of the parents help primarily with volunteering their time, but financially they cannot help our school. My students are kindhearted and enthusiastic about learning something new despite of the challenges they face at home. Most of us teachers grew up in the surrounding neighborhoods; therefore we have a special bond with our community.
My Project
The book display stands I have at this moment are falling apart. Obtaining the book stands that I am requesting, will benefit my current and future students will by enabling them to find books in a shorter time. This will expedite the search time for a required classroom project or simply help them find a book they have a special interest in. Time in a classroom is precious and limited so we have to find ways to maximize our teaching time.
Organizing our library will give my students an opportunity to explore the rich library I have been able to build throughout the years.
They might be able to find an author who or a genre that will captivate them and they will discover another world. I tell my students, "You have to jump into the book." I want them to be able to find in a more efficient time a book they feel the need to "jump into."
