Let's organize and focus on science!

Help me give my students organize their work in a 3 ring binder they can personalize and stay focused by charging their phones at my desk out of their hands.

My Project

Last year we started teaching earth science in 9th grade. We have workbook pages we print as a district and we supplement with amazing hands-on labs and case studies to make learning relevant to our students.

We struggled with organization last year as we tried workbooks on their own which we realized needed supplements- where do we put the extra papers?

We then went to workbooks with supplemental copies we taped into the workbooks. Papers were everywhere and misplaced. Next we tried folders to hold the workbooks and supplements....again papers everywhere. After talking to other teachers we found the most successful version was a skinny 3 inch binder with numbered pages the students could organize. (Note: the teachers recycle their binders year to year- which is my hope also.)

We are hoping the binders with numbered pages will allow students to organize for the quarter so they can see their learning and find materials needed for the day.

The next ask is for chargers for cell phones. Many teachers at our school have found success when they offer cell chargers for the phone and takes the phone out of their space to my desk or office. Although cell phones are not allowed we still battle with them. By having a charger many teachers say put it away or chrage it for the hour on my desk.

My students are energentic 9th graders who are social and like to be together in class and learn. They like to share and know that they are learning how to be adults- organize work, keep work, turn in completed work and put their phone away while in class.

I hope you consider helping my students to learn how to balance school, social and getting a great grade because they are organized and focused.
