Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a high school serving students in grades 9-12. We are in an urban neighborhood. Many of our students immigrated from another country or are the children of immigrants. Many of my students will be the first in their families to graduate from high school.
My students are college-bound, highly motivated, hardworking and dream of success.
They are awesome! Most are from lower socioeconomic status but have the endurance to make it to 12th grade and most aim to go to college and get a degree. They dream of becoming everything from doctors to teachers to lawyers and entrepreneurs.
My Project
I want to read the Nickel and Dimed with my students. Unfortunately, our school does not have enough copies for everyone, and we don't have the funds to purchase the books, either. I would never ask my students to buy the book themselves, as many of our students' families struggle financially.
Let's not nickel and dime our students.
Let's provide them with all of the tools and books they need to succeed. My AP students will benefit from reading many points of view on many different subjects. This book in particular is one I'm sure many will appreciate and relate to because it is about the struggle to survive. I know I did. I appreciate your help and generosity and thank you in advance.
