This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project will allow our students to access the classroom in a variety of ways!
The rolling/standing desks will provide movement for them to be fully present in many ways and give them access that traditional desks do not.
We are imagining the desk to be used in so many ways! Students will be able to move freely during work time to work next to a comfortable peer, get support from a teacher, stand on a day they have tons of energy, or move to sit next to a bright window. As teachers, we often pull students to do quick mini lessons, these rolling standing desks will often be used in that way. Having a mobile way to check with students will allow more access to any struggling learners and ultimately provide the best outcomes for our whole class.
Another item in this project is erasable pens. These have been a staple in our math classroom. They have been instrumental in allowing our students to access difficult math concepts! Note-taking is essential in high school math curriculum and discovering bold, bright and erasable ways to take notes have made math more fun and engaging for teachers and students. Every year students are intrigued by our classroom erasable pens and add them as a tool to their success strategies!
It has always been a priority for me to provide a welcoming and safe space for any and all students in my classroom. In my classroom I have calming corners, affirmation walls, daily check ins, intentional relationship building practices, and a variety of wellness items or activities. These calming/anxiety stickers will add to our ever-growing options for self-care.
