This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a class of twenty-four amazing first grade students in a diverse Title I community located in the inner-city. It is in one of the largest cities in the country where all students receive free breakfast and lunch. They love to learn and love to show others what they've learned.

To help them overcome the challenges they currently face at home, I am eager to provide them with meaningful resources to support their at-home learning.

My little learners have been working with what they have at home and continue to keep their spirits up as best they can. However, these things alone, are not enough to encourage and entice young learners.

My Project

My first graders are in need of fun, engaging resources to help them successfully participate in distance learning, with items such as play-doh, activity pads, scissors, and books to read.

Most live in apartment buildings, without a front or backyard to play in, therefore having an outlet to release any built up anxiety is imperative.

Distance learning is tough for my students, but I want them to continue using their imagination and practicing their fine motor skills. I am requesting coloring activity books and play-doh for each of my students. These items will help them develop their fine motor skills as they strengthen the muscles in their little hands. More importantly, I hope they positively impact their social emotional state, as they will have multiple opportunities to tap into their imaginations and create.

Your passion for making an impact will ensure that all 24 of my little learners are equipped with fun classroom essentials. Thank you for supporting my first graders and their education. May you stay healthy and safe during these very uncertain times.
