Kindergarten is where we build foundational skills and grow the students' love for learning. My students are eager to begin to write stories and read books that interest them. They are excited to begin to learn the fundamentals of math. Some of my students have never been in a classroom and are learning the basics while others are ready to be challenged more.
My Project
When I have the listening center set up, I would like to have age/skill-appropriate books available. These books chosen include math, rhyming, and fun! Hearing books being read aloud will help students strengthen their fluency. Reading along with the story will strengthen their letter and word recognition. These are all foundational skills students need to learn in kindergarten and to become strong readers and writers. 5 Little Monkeys is a great repetitive story and can help us count and learn subtraction. Sheep in a Jeep is a great rhyming story and will help with phonics lessons about double ee sound.
