My Students
I am a grade four teacher at a Title I Elementary school in Hilo, Hawaii. I teach fourth grade in an inclusion setting with a co-teacher. In our grade level, our students rotate for math, ELA, and sciences, therefore we will see each and every fourth-grade student in our school (nearly 175 students!)
It is important to us that each and every student comes to school excited to learn every day.
As an inclusive classroom, we understand that the world can be a challenging place. We want our classroom to feel like a safe place where students can learn and explore together.
My Project
The Island of Hawaii has had an ongoing natural disaster. The active volcano has left many families without homes and therefore many children are being displaced from their previous schools. Students will need to transfer into the surrounding districts come next school year. For students who have not had to evacuate they have had to deal with daily stressors such as daily earthquakes and air pollution in the form of Vog.
It is expected that many students will need to transfer to my school.
Making my large class even larger. I want to make sure that all students have a comfortable place to learn, so I am making room for our new friends. I am asking for donations for flexible desk. These desks can be used individually or in groups. They can easily flex into the current classroom arrangements. I want to make sure that all students have a smooth transition into my classroom come next school year. Please help me incorporate working areas for our new friends.
I am trying to create a peaceful classroom for our students during this time of uncertainty.
