Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kindergarten is an exciting time! There are so many things to learn and do. Each year my students come to me eager to learn to read and write. Unfortunately, many of them don't know their letters & sounds, and lack pre-reading skills. A lot of the work we do in the first few months of school is spent catching the class up to speed.
My students work really hard to learn to read and write.
They feel so proud when they master rhyming or realize they can hear and record sounds. We celebrate when a student knows all letter names and again when they know the sounds. About mid-year all of our hard work begins to pay off as students begin reading and writing.
My Project
Daily word practice is vital to becoming a good reader and writer. These magnetic white boards and letters will give my students many options to practice making words. We will be able to "play" with words by changing letters to make new words. The organized boxes of letters will allow students to identify letters as they collect the letters needed for lessons. In combination with dry erase markers, we will be able to use the words we make to write and read sentences.
These class sets of magnetic letters and magnetic white boards are going to give everyone in the class the chance to become word making masters!
