This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a variety of students that I work with from kindergartners who are experiencing music for the first time, to fifgth graders who are just starting to learn how to put a piece of music together. Some are fluent in English, while others are learning it. Some of my students also just love to play, move and dance along to various music. Most, if not all, of the students qualify for free or reduced price lunches. For many, using the instruments in class, may be the only chance they get to explore instruments they may not normally have access to.
Music is such an important part of my students' day especially this year.
We are still following certain Covid-19 Guidelines and I am working on creating as many opportunities and ways for them to safety engage in music. The drum sticks will be used for bucket drumming in grade three and the picks with my fifth grade.
I want my students to continue to have access to instruments despite the fact they may not be able to share instruments at the beginning of the school year.
My Project
This year, I am working towards collecting drum sticks so some of my classes can begin to explore the musical concept of rhythms using bucket drumming. The requested drumsticks will allow each student to have their own pair to use. The requested picks will be used with Ukuleles that we are in the process of trying to get. Again, the project will provide enough materials for each student to have their own picks.
Please help me purchase these items so I can begin to introduce my students to drumming and string playing.
