This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work as the music and choir teacher at a Title I school where most students are low income. It has been open almost three years, and I have been there since the beginning. The program focuses on DLI; students learn Spanish half of their school day and English the other half of the day.

My students love music class and are eager to learn; because of this I am always trying to find new branches of music to expose them to and I am a firm believer in hands-on learning and believe this is the best way for information to stick.

We have started implemented technology into our music program with synthesizers, but I would like to take that a step further with a MIDI recorder. This device makes any sound you can image. It launches, play and performs your sounds and builds tracks using the RGB pads, note and scale modes, and mixer controls. A MIDI controller is the epitome of electronic music, which is a passion for my students.

My Project

I have implemented a modern band program at my school, which is growing by leaps and bounds. With this program students are learning to play guitar, keyboard, drum set, and bass guitar while accompanying classmates who are signing. The students enjoy playing songs they hear on the radio and they sound great doing so, but it’s hard to get that authentic sound without a device to make electronic sounds.

Adding a Novation Launchpad would be an invaluable addition to our modern band program and bring us to the next level.

Students will be able to create electronic beats instead of solely relying on the drum set for beats. This will also be an immense help when we are traveling because transporting a drum set is cumbersome event.
