My Students

Reading is fun and my English Learners will benefit so much from readers theater. They will get an opportunity to see how much fun reading can be as we build fluency and comprehension to increase their reading level. Let's Make Reading FUN!

My students live in a low social economic community where they face a variety of challenges everyday.

Often times students come to school distracted by personal problems at home. However, they are hard workers who believe in the value of a good education. Many students' (90% English Learners) are reading below grade level and I believe if we can make reading more fun, they will be more engaged and gain more confidence in reading. Our school have made significant gains in student achievement. We are all working hard to become a distinguished school. We are a Title I school where 100% of students receive free lunch.

My Project

Readers theater will help students build their fluency, comprehension, and love for reading. As they become better readers, they will have more confidence in reading. Third grade is a crucial grade level for students to improve their reading skills because in 4th grade, they will transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." The items I have selected can be used whole class or in small workshop groups. Students are not only building fluency during workshop groups, but they are learning how to cooperate with each other and the importance of team work in order to make a play successful. When preforming a play, they are gaining public speaking skills, which is a life-long skill.

This is my 3rd year teaching and I do not have much resources yet.

I do the best I can to help my students reach success, but it is challenging when I do not have the right tools to make reading fun. In addition, it is challenging to work with a range of reading levels. I teach 3rd grade but the reading level in my classroom ranges from 1st grade to 3rd grade. Your donation will not only make a difference, it will help fill our classroom with laughter and fun!
