This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 25 Kindergarten students who come from a high needs area. Kindergarten is the first time many of these students step into a classroom. Kindergarten is the first step of their journey to learning and creating new friendships.

Literacy is the foundation of their education that enables them to become successful learners.

My students come in enthusiastic and eager to learn every day in spite of the economic challenges they face. They are excited to explore new materials and new ways of learning. I am proud to be their teacher!

My Project

Reading is a fundamental skill in Kindergarten. My goal is to make reading a fun activity for my students. Having a listening center in my classroom is an excellent way for students to read independently or with a buddy.

Listening to a book is a fun way to become a part of the story.

Combining visual stimuli and auditory stimuli simultaneously is a great way for students to be successful readers. Having a variety of books for students to read and listen to is an exciting way for them to discover their interests. Starting my listening center library gives students the opportunity to read in a new way.
