This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 4 and 5-year-old boys and girls who have had limited opportunities for creative learning and exploration. I am a TK/Kinder teacher working at a magnet school in Los Angeles. Ironically, the positive changes in the neighborhood have not directly filtered down to our school and classrooms. Our school remains a Title 1 school with most of our students qualifying for reduced-price or free lunch. My students are an eager, vibrant, energetic group that will thrive on any enriched opportunity for learning.

My Project

Wobble chairs and headphones will be used specifically at our workstations during our language arts block.

The students will use the headphones for our computer station and iPad station, where learning takes a fun, but noisy turn.

The students have access to various educational sites that support their learning and creativity. They build literacy skills, phonics skills, and practice reading fluency as they listen and follow along to read alouds. However, in order for the students to focus on individual activities and bring the classroom noise level down so that the rest may also focus at their workstation, headphones for our new iPads would be a great asset.

Wobble chairs will also be used during language arts time. They will be an asset in the library corner and for other literacy activities, such as reader's theater. The students will have the flexibility and freedom with movement they need to tap into their creative side and be productive learners.
