As Barack Obama states, "Computers are going to be part. a big part of our future ... and that future is yours to shape." As educators, it is our responsibility to prepare our students to be productive members of the twenty-first century in the field of computer science.
I teach a dynamic bunch of enthusiastic and creative, fourth-grade students whom we will prepare for a bright future.
My biggest challenge is having technology resources for all children to prepare them for jobs in computer science. My goal is to get a marble run set, and ozobot so my children can embark into the field of STEM and create their own inventions. I teach a multicultural, fourth-grade class in a Title One school with limited resources. By the end of the year, I expect to see my students' reading, math, science and social studies levels to rise.
My Project
My classroom is in need of an Ozobot, marble run set, and paint. I utilize many websites to teach children how to code. My students love coding so much that they crave more. This inspired me to want to take learning to the next level by incorporating different stem activities.
The students can get creative and use their imagination to play hands-on games as they move with the Ozobots and marble run set.
We need to empower our children to become makers of the technology. Teaching computer coding through computer science engages students in interactive games and activities that are hands-on. I love to see the smiles on children's faces after they code their own creations with the Ozobots. Students can build obstacle courses and mazes with the marble run set. This will allow children to imagine the endless possibilities of STEAM learning and robotics and build confidence at the same time. Having an Ozobot and marble run set will enable me to pair my students up as they move around the classroom and interact with the robots in a cross curricular fashion. The students can challenge each other as they work in teams to create challenges like bowling challenges, perimeter races and construction challenges with the Ozobots. The marble run set will add an extra layer of excitement to this activity. The paint will be used for creating inventions with the Makey Makey. The children will be able to build communication skills, teamwork, critical thinking and more when working with peers. Let's fund this spectacular project today!!!!
