Help me give my students a complete range of African Drums. We have a single Authentic Djembe and I would like the students to be able to create drum ensemble patterns with different pitched drums.
My school is an Urban Title I school of about 200+ students. They look forward to playing instruments most of all and are always excited when I have a new instrument for them to explore or a new song to prepare for performing.
My students love exploring and improvising with various instruments, creating soundscapes with instrumental accompaniment to familiar or new stories.
The classes can range in size from 15 to 22 and so each student has a chance to explore, I want to add to my Orff Instrumentarium to allow for more creative adventures for the students.
My Project
My urban students love drumming, and I encourage them to create ensembles using the various hand held percussion that I have. The addition of the two Djembes in this project would greatly expand the range of sounds and patterns the students would have available to them. Many published drum ensembles call for three sizes of drums, and the single drum we have has proven itself to be a little limiting in the tones it produces. We have many drum ensemble performances pieces and I want to help my student's to realize the range of sounds available to traditional African performers.
