Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is made up of immigrants from different Hispanic heritages. We are considered a Title I school because our parents are considered low-income. I feel my students are special because many of them come here for the first time to live in a land of opportunity. For many of my students coming to America is a lifelong dream of their parents and will bring them a brighter future.

As their music teacher, I try to bring culture and musical exploration to their lives.

Our music students love to perform. We annually perform in several school wide concerts throughout the year. We love to sing for a local nursing home during the holiday season bringing joy to the geriatric residents. In addition, my students enjoy performing at various events throughout Miami. At our school we love to create beautiful music to share with others as a team. Our school is also a center for special education students, many of the students are in wheel chairs. These students, no matter their limitations, love to create music and would benefit from a quality music program.

My Project

These music stands will help so much this year in our brand new music classroom. This will be the first year our school has ever had a music classroom with instruments and I feel having traditional music stands will help my music students be able to hold their music in front of them as they play beautiful music as a team! In addition, having music stands will allow us to play more instruments during our school wide concerts. We are also looking forward to starting a world drumming ensemble at our school this year and having a tubano drum will be a nice way to start adding to our drum circle.
