This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a group of 20 five and six-year-olds from all sorts of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and family backgrounds. Although different, they primarily share a low socioeconomic household. I teach at a public school in west TN, and our school shares the same type of background as my group of children. Well over 80% of our school receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Overall, my group of students is excited to be in school, some for the first time, and love anything that makes them feel like a "big kid."
My Project
The students need an assessment program that will not take away a lot of extra instructional time. With ESGI, I will be able to quickly assess each student on anything from letter recognition to sight words and numbers. This data will then be easily read and instruction can be adapted to meet each student's needs. The best part is that I can then print or email a report to parents and even send home learning tools specific to each child. This program will really help keep things moving with very little time to do anything extra in our very scheduled day.
