My Project

I love to record music. It’s something that I personally do often, and it’s an important skill to teach my students. It's fun to record my young players just after they’ve worked on a piece of music. They can instantly evaluate their performance and assess what needs to be worked on. It’s also fun to create a track, and then add onto it. This is music composition, a valuable skill in music education!

I believe recording the music students play is a vital part of learning a musical instrument.

The process of students practicing their part until they get it right, being able to play with a play-along track or a metronome, and then listening to the final product and evaluating themselves is a valuable learning experience. The physical steps of recording are equally as important. Learning how to set up the software, where to place the microphones, what cables to use and how to connect everything together… It's all part of the learning process.

The heart of the recording session is the interface, the device that converts the sound to the computer. Focurite is the champion of home recording technology, and the Scarlett 4i4 will be the perfect tool for my schools. Let’s add the Boss RC1 Looper Pedal, which is one of the most useful guitar pedals for young kids learning how to create and improvise. I love recording a play-along track into it, then loop that track over and over, then have my students try to play a solo over it. We’re learning how to solo with the pentatonic scale in our guitar ensemble, so this pedal will work seamlessly with our curriculum.
