I am the K-5 science teacher in a newly-created elementary science lab. Our campus is adjacent to a major military installation, and over half of our student body is military dependent. Due to a population explosion in the area, our fifth grade students are being temporarily housed in a middle school. I travel to both campuses each day, seeing all 1200 students every nine days.
Does a cockroach always have hairy legs? Why does our class iguana's skin look wrinkly? Which hand lotion makes skin look smoother? These are some of the questions I hear on a daily basis! Students are fascinated with the microscopic world, curious to explore seemingly common objects with renewed interest. Using basic science supplies such as hand lenses will help open that world to young learners.
I would like hand lenses to give my students the opportunity to explore. This project will enable them to begin seeing their world through new eyes.
Your support with make it possible for my students to become budding scientists. You never know -- one may even discover a cure for some strange disease!
