Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at my school come from all around the district looking to gain an insightful education. We offer creative courses for our students where the teacher is allowed to create his/her own course that students are interested in and want to learn about.
Our students are 50% Hispanic, 30% African American and 20% Caucasian.
We have a population of over 80% free or reduced lunch. We have the most respectful and responsible students, they take a great interest in their learning. Our school is built on the Adlerian philosophy where students come to school to learn not only about reading and math but they also learn about being respectful, responsible, responsive and resourceful. Those four principles are the keys to making our school run successfully. Students are given extra chances to become successful through counseling sessions to discuss ways to improve in both academics and in social situations.
My Project
I am requesting kid friendly microscopes to enhance the learning of students now and for those to come. Typically our students are not privy to using microscopes until middle school. I would like to give them a hands-on opportunity well before those years. They will not only learn about the insects from books but learn how to magnify the animal using the microscope and also how to draw the insect and compare it to another one. The students will not only learn about bugs but they will also get an in-depth knowledge of how to use microscopes and gain a love for science.
This project is so important because I want to instill the love for science in children.
If at an early age, I can give students a hands on learning experience based in science my belief is it will stay with them for life.
