Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My musical tigers are title 1 students who are very eager to learn and love to move with, experience, and create music! Children on my campus are willing to take an ownership of their learning process. Our tigers deserve to feel a sense of ownership and leadership. Many do not have much at home to which they feel this sense of ownership. My children learn best when they are able to use hands on manipulative tools and when they are able collaborate with peers and be creative. This open creativity allows my students to make their learning more concrete. I am unbelievably fortunate to see my students 2-3 times a week for 55 minutes. However, due to high numbers in our music classroom (around 40 students) we are required to be very creative with our extremely limited resources.
My Project
My students NEED time to interact with their peers. This listening center will allow for a way for our students to interact with their classmates as they work together! In this station students will be able to listen to music and analyze the music using terms they have learned throughout the year. Using stations in my music classroom allows for our students to think, reflect, and verbalize what we are learning.
Children are social learners and NEED time throughout the day to team up with peers!
Social interactions help our students grow and will teach ways to positively contribute to their learning. Through social and emotional opportunities, our children will gain the skills to collaborate with peers.
The materials used in this station will allow for their Language Arts growth as they need to read, write, and verbalize their learning. In addition to their Musical and Language Arts growth, our self contained classroom for children with autism will have a resource to be able to use in my classroom.
